From 24 to 27 August 2026, the Institute of Aviation Studies traded its usual buzz of flight simulators and boarding drills for the quieter click and clatter of carrom coins. Over four knockout days, 123 doubles teams — 86 boys’ teams and 37 girls’ teams — competed for tabletop supremacy at the Aviation Campus, with every match conducted under the watch of the Institute’s Physical Education Directors.

On the Boards

Every corner of the campus that could fit a board did. Under a stage still dressed in marigold and red from the season’s festivities, teams huddled two at a time, calling their shots, reading angles, and waiting out their turn in the knockout draw. What the scoreline doesn’t capture is the rest of it — the concentration before a tricky pot, the quick low-fives between partners, the small crowds that gathered around the closer matches.

The tournament asked for more than a steady hand. With every round elimination-only, doubles pairs had to read each other as well as the board — deciding in a whisper who takes the next shot, who defends, who closes it out. It’s exactly the kind of teamwork, patience and sporting spirit the Institute likes to see carried from the games room into everything else its students do.

Behind the Win

The tournament was conducted under the esteemed guidance and support of Dr. Pavithra Kumari, Dean, Institute of Aviation Studies, with the Institute’s Physical Education Directors overseeing every knockout round. The SWO, HODs, sports coordinators, faculty members, student volunteers and staff of the Institute kept all 123 matches running smoothly across the four days.

The tournament concluded successfully, giving students a floor to test their focus under pressure and back their partner when it counted.

Beyond the trophies, it did what it set out to do — promote a healthy indoor sports culture, build teamwork between doubles partners, and add another shared memory to campus life at the Institute of Aviation Studies.
